Dizziness has happened to all of us at some point in time, whether it’s because we stared into an optical illusion for a long period or even stood up way too fast. The sensation of being unstable can be uncomfortable, but these feelings are very minor compared to the effects of vertigo.

According to the Cleveland clinic, Vertigo is defined as “a sensation that the environment around you is spinning in circles. It can make you feel dizzy and off-balance. Vertigo isn’t a disease. Rather, it’s a symptom of varying conditions.” Vertigo can be absolutely crippling in everyday life because it can lead you to not feeling well, make it challenging to even walk, and even hinder your hearing and vision.

Majority of the time, there is a communication issue between the inner ear and brain . Due to this neurological relationship, gonstead chiropractic care may be an excellent course of treatment to get rid of your dizziness. Our best keller chiropractors has studied the best ways to implement the essential system (Gonstead System of Analysis) to help people overcome their vertigo by focusing on the foundation of the spine.

Signs and Symptoms of Vertigo

The most common symptom that one can experience “vertigo” is a dizziness that creates the false sense that you or your surroundings are spinning or moving. Other symptoms of vertigo may include:

●     Loss of balance or unsteadiness

●     Nausea

●     Vomiting

●     Dizziness

●     Feeling or sense that everything around you is spinning or moving.

●     Swaying side to side / front to back

●     Ringing in ears / tinnitus

If you have endured trauma to the head or neck, this can lead to a disturbance of the communication pathways of the nervous system via the spinal column. With nerve irritation, many wonder why they experience vertigo.

Most commonly, vertigo can be caused by a disruption to your vestibular system. The vestibular system provides the sense of balance and the information about body position that allows rapid compensatory movements in response to both self-induced and externally generated forces (ncbi). The level of dizziness may be contributed by atmospheric pressure change, movement of particles within the inner-ear, or even ear infections.

Reducing Vertigo with Chiropractic Approach

After completing the initial structural care plan, many patients have noted they no longer had dizziness or vertigo. This course of treatment included structural corrections which helped balance the foundation of the spine. When the foundation of the spine is stable, the vestibular system tends to calm down - thus leading to a relief of symptoms.

Chiropractic adjustments usually help alleviate a certain type of vertigo called cervical vertigo. Cervical vertigo is also called cervicogenic dizziness which is a secondary condition that leads to both neck pain and dizziness. This condition stems from a dysfunction of the joints within the cervical spine. The improper movement typically results from repetitive movements or a neck injury. When an injury occurs, this causes a disruption of information of body movement to the brain. This miscommunication may cause you to experience loss of balance or dizziness. Structural adjustments to the spine will allow proper nerve flow and pathways.

Oftentimes, people can experience Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) if there is a build up of small crystals of calcium carbonate called “otoconia”. This debris is like “ear rocks”. BPPV occurs when calcium carbonate crystals are displaced into sections of the inner canal which can lead to shifting your center of gravity and cause you to feel dizzy.

To get relief from BPPV, your keller chiropractor may use the Epley maneuver which involves a series of head movements into different positions. This maneuver is a process to help reposition the calcium carbonate crystals (otoconia) inside the ear.

You shouldn’t have to experience dizziness or a constant loss of balance. At Thrive Chiropractor, our chiropractors utilize the Gonstead System of Analysis (GSA), a systematic approach to finding the long term solution to your health concerns. Find the best chiropractors here
